Fernley Levee Flood Area Google Map View
Fernley Levee Flood Google Map
There is plenty of national and local media coverage of the flooding due to the levee (canal) break in Fernley, NV. I noticed many people searching my site for nearby streets and maps, likely to try to determine the scope of the flooding of the homes for friends, family, etc.
Unfortunately, there are not any good maps or detailed aerial photos. I put together this map based on an aerial photo that was posted on KOLO news in Reno. This is an approximation based on the photo on the news web site and should not be used for any definitive decision making. I am simply trying to help with more 'interactivity' based on the available information.
Note:
Since I published this blog, there has been a better, more detailed map (google map) published by the local newspaper. You should visit the link below for more detailed information:

If you can add information here (which streets are flooded, which are not, current conditions, etc.), please post a comment. The community involvement may provide much better updates than the media coverage.

The canal actually broke at the end of Crimson, behind Blue Opal St. The water was flowing down along Crimson and then over Farm District Road. The flow continued along the east side of Farm Road to Shadow Mountain, Jennys, and Darren.

Mitch, thanks for providing this map. In a couple of months I will be looking at buying a home in the Fernley area. Was a little concerned after seeing what happened with the "levee". Are all homes in the levee flood plain? Should I be concerned with purchasing a home in a mini New Orleans?

Thank you! My best friend lives in Fernley & works long hours-haven't been able to get ahold of him, and haven't been able to find a map to tell me where the flooded area was until now. I am very sorry for those who were in the flooded area (he wasn't). I can sypathize with John, I was in the New Orleans area for Katrina. Best of luck to all, especially with FEMA. Keep EVERY receipt.

John, you don't have to worry about things like this happening - this can happen anywhere! I lived in Fernley for 2 years and people I know still live there - my "dogniece"
is there. It's a GREAT place to live and raise kids. You'll love it!! I do!

The flooded areas are more than that and occured past Darren Way to the corner of Jenny's and Angela Street.
There's a ditch area between Angela St and Shadow Mountain Drive where the water is being drained out.
