Minden, established in 1905, and the county seat for Douglas County is at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and has an elevation of 4,700 feet above sea level. Minden residents enjoy four distinct seasons and over 300 days of sunshine each year. When combined with Minden's elevation and high-desert climate, we enjoy winters that are much milder than midwest and northeast US areas and summers that are much milder than southern Nevada, Arizona, and many inland areas of Northern and Southern California. We do get light snow (generally 2" - 5" several times a year) that typically melts away in a few hours to a day or two. As you can see, our summer months are warm with cool evening temperatures.

Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa all offer equal access to local shopping amenities. The towns are served by local chain grocery stores with ample surrounding retail for fast food, movie rental, movie theaters, etc. Major "big box" stores including Costco, Home Depot, PetCo, WalMart, Target, Best Buy, Border Books, Trader Joe's and more are located at the north end of Douglas County - about a 10 minute drive from Minden. For department store and mall shopping, you would likely drive to Reno which has two regional malls (Meadowood Mall
and Sierra Summit) that offer finer department store options such as Macy's or Dillard's as well as a wide range of specialty stores.
