Common Home Construction Facts
Most Carson City homes are built on a perimeter foundation with a raised floor allowing a crawl space under the home. Carson City homes built on a slab foundation are not as common but can be found in older as well as new homes from builders. The primary advantage to a perimeter foundation is the ease of access to household systems (plumbing, ducting, cable TV wiring.) when making repairs. In most cases, there is a "hatch" in the house (commonly in a closet) allowing access to the crawl space. When a Carson City home is inspected, the home inspector will go under the house to check for plumbing leaks, ducting damage, and any signs of water or water damage.
Most Carson City homes are "stick built" meaning built with wood studs. The depth of the studs will vary between 4" (a "2 by 4") and 6" (a "2 by 6").
