Local Home Construction Summary
Most homes are built on a perimeter foundation with a raised floor allowing a crawl space under the home. Homes built on a slab foundation are not as common but can be found in older as well as some new homes from builders. The primary advantage to a perimeter foundation is the ease of access to household systems (plumbing, ducting, cable TV wiring) when making repairs or maintenance. In most cases, there is a "hatch" in the house (commonly in a closet) allowing access to the crawl space. When a home is inspected, the home inspector will go under the house to check for plumbing leaks, ducting damage, and any signs of water or water damage.
